Methods of Consuming CBD

There are many ways to use CBD, and they can be broken down into two main groups: orally, and topically. We’ll cover both and the different methods within these two groups.

The best way to consume CBD isn’t one specific method. The best way for you will depend on what you want to take CBD for. So let’s get started finding your best method.

Oral Ingestion

These methods are best used for relief from anxiety, sleeping disorders, depression, PTSD, and many other mental illnesses. They can also be used for some mild aches and pains. There are a variety of popular methods to consume CBD orally.

It’s important to remember that not all CBD is completely THC free. Some CBD can contain up to 0.3% THC. While this will more than likely not show on a drug test it could in rare cases.

We’ll be starting off with CBD oil or CBD tincture.

CBD Tincture

The most basic way to take CBD oil is by dropping it under your tongue and holding it there for up to a minute. This method is pretty slow to start working, but its effects can last for hours.

You can also put a couple of drops of CBD oil in your food. This way you don’t have to hold it under your tongue. This is also a good way to gauge the dose you are getting.

You can CBD oil to a variety of things. For example, many people add CBD oil to their shampoo and conditioner for its amazing benefits for hair.

A tincture is a good option if you want a versatile way to consume CBD.

Flower and Vape

This method is very popular with the younger crowd and those who want to medicate gradually throughout the day. Flower and vape CBD is consumed through inhaling smoke from the combusted product. In other words, you smoke it.

This method is good for those who have mild to severe symptoms and want immediate relief. This method does take effect very quickly but the effects can also wear off faster than with other methods.  To continually have relief, you would need to smoke several times throughout the day.

Edibles

Another favorite method of consuming CBD is through edibles. These can be anything you can imagine including cakes, cookies, drinks, etc. These goodies come pre-made and their labels will explain how much CBD is in each serving.

There is an almost unlimited variety of CBD edibles; you can even find CBD candy. Just as with these gummies choices, you have plenty of options to choose from.

The effects of using edibles are often slow to appear, usually between thirty minutes to two hours. This method will provide you with long term relief from mild to severe symptoms.

Topical

Topical methods are good for arthritis, skin disorders, and sore muscles. When using these methods the CBD is absorbed through your skin. This gives you external benefits rather than internal.

These methods are good options for those that don’t want to actually ingest CBD. Topical application will also not put you at risk of failing a drug test.

Lotions

CBD has been shown to have a high concentration of vitamins and minerals which help your skin stay hydrated and strong. It’s even believed to help skin keep its elasticity to make you look younger, although there is no definitive proof of this claim. CBD can even help soothe your skin after a long day in the sun.

CBD infused lotions can help soothe eczema flare-ups or other skin conditions. It can also help moisturize dehydrated skin. As expected you simply rub the lotion onto the area until your skin absorbs it.

You can typically expect results pretty quickly but you will need to re-apply periodically through the day.

Balms

These are a lot like the lotions but are thicker and can sometimes leave a greasy feeling on your skin. These are good for more severe skin conditions. It can also help soothe dry, chapped skin on stubborn areas like knees or elbows.

There are some balms that even help ease the pain from nerve damage. Just like with lotion you rub it into your skin until its absorbed. While it can help relieve some of the symptoms you should still take any medications prescribed to you by a doctor.

Ointments

If you get a scratch, bug bite, or even a minor burn these can help soothe pain and itching. These ointments can also help protect the broken skin from infection.

CBD ointments don’t typically have an immediate effect but can have a gradual effect over time. These ointments make a great addition to first aid kits.
